5 Podcasts I Recommend to my Couples

Danielle Sitting at desk with headphones on, listening to a podcast

I’m a podcast junkie. These days, most of my conversations start with, “I was listening to this one podcast and…” I can’t help it! I love a good conversation and I am always excited to learn something new. Plus, the audio format is the perfect way to consume media while I’m traveling to weddings or editing images!

If you’re also a podcast-lover and in the wedding-planning stages - here are five amazing podcasts you’ll want to download right-friggin-now!

  1. For some major giggles: The Secret Life of Weddings

This is one of the first podcasts I ever listened to! “SLOW” is all about getting a good laugh out of other’s misfortune. If that sounds harsh, well sometimes it is! But mostly it’s an amazing way to blow off steam through the realization that whatever you’re stressing about in regards to your own wedding, really isn’t so bad! Hosted by two Canadian wedding photographers, this show rehashes other peoples’ wedding-day horror stories much to the delight of drama-thirsty listeners. As a wedding vendor, I find these stories laugh-until-you-cry funny with the added relief that nothing I’ve ever experienced has been that dang bad! Here’s a taste.

2. For sound advice: Bridechilla

Aleisha is your best friend who is not afraid to tell it like it is and encourage you to question tradition by tossing anything that doesn’t work for you, in the “fuck it bucket”. She tackles unique wedding-related topics such as ‘how to handle a wedding as a person with social anxiety’ (Episode 379) and understanding that you can ‘stop saying yes to shit you hate’ (Episode 299). There’s also a Bridechilla Facebook group and some amazing physical books. This podcast is especially refreshing to me because Aleisha subscribes to the same idea I do. Your wedding day is about YOU and you only and everything else is negotiable!

3. To put the focus back on your relationship: Where Should We Begin? with Ester Perel

The wedding-day is the beginning of your marriage, is it not? Sometimes people get so lost in planning their big day that they forget to spend time focusing on their partner and their relationship. Ester Perel is a The episodes are real, recorded conversations she has had with couples which can help you bring up potential sticking points in your relationship as it is currently or in the future.

4. For answers to wedding planning specifics: The Big Wedding Planning Podcast

How about a straight-forward wedding podcast that guides you, answers your questions, but also isn’t dead boring? Christy and Michelle are two long-time wedding planners. They cover everything from building your budget to building your wedding day timeline. You can also share episodes with your wedding party if they’re struggling to write a toast! They always make sure to include personal anecdotes and fresh perspectives for up-to-date advice! The titles on their episode make it super easy to pick and choose your episodes!

5. Staying modern in your planning: Put a Ring on It

Another podcast hosted by two wedding photographers! Since their profession allows them to get behind the scenes and experience every part of wedding days, they have been able to distill-down what they see and think into super easy to follow explanations and advice! Dan and Danielle are all about being intentional when planning your wedding and questioning doing things ‘just because.‘ I’d recommend starting with “Ten Things Your Guests Won’t Care About” and “Four Fundamentals for Hosting a Great Event
